THE QUINTET OF QUALITY

I want to introduce  a new idea I have – the Quintet of Quality.  Here I am offering five world famous pipes complete in their own display storage cabinet.  The selection is made from the best pipemakers in the world, however substitutions will be allowed.

Here’s what I am talking about.  The pipes are from left to right: Peterson full bent, Butz Choquin, Savinelli, Barling and a Lorenzo.

They are being offered at a knock down price of £125 plus carriage.  Due to international shipping charges I must restrict this to the UK only.

That just about sums it all up!

GOOD PLACES TO SHOP

Here are a couple of sites for buying reasonably priced tobacco and cigars.  The Briary is an American firm that is quite happy to ship to the UK.  I buy bulk tobacco from them.

The German firm also sells bulk tobacco as well as a very good line in cigars.  I buy the Dominican Republic Mustique cigars from them a good basic cigar at a very good price.  Try the blue band, the red band has a stronger wrapper which makes for a stronger smoke.  You can quite happily mix and match.

WHOA! FABULOUS NEW PIPE

I have just received in a stunning boxed pipe.  It is under the Kaywoodie name and the box is marked ""Kaywoodie Dr Mini Cose Italiane"

I believe this to be a freehand pipe because I cannot find any reference to it anywhere.  I believe it dates from the early 90's.  As you can see it comes with two mouthpieces, a long one for a sitter and a normal size.

If anyone has any information about this pipe, or might be interested in buying it, please get in touch.

NEW BROTHER - HAPPY PUFFER

Just had an email from a new brother who recently bought a pipe from me on Ebay.

Hi Bob,
I have attached a pic of me with the pipe you sent. I had only just reamed and cleaned it and it was my first smoke. It is lit but a very windy day here! Sorry for the delay, I have only been back a week and its been busy at work. I have only just started smoking pipes ( 4 months ) and have over 25 of them already, much to my wifes frustration in finding them all over the house! I smoke mainly metal stems and have 15 or more such as Falcon, Ronson, Brentford etc but my favourite is the Duncan Delta of which yours is one. I love the bowl. Thanks again.

Regards

Barrie

Don't forget if you want to send us a picture of you puffing away we would love to have them.

STOP PRESS - MAGNIFICENT HARCOURT

Just in - this fabulous example of the pipemakers art.  Handcrafted by Preben Holm exclusively for Dunhill this is the sort of pipe you would sell the car to own.  In outstanding condition it doesn’t appear to have been smoked more than a couple of times.  In its original box.  This fits the hand like an angel’s bottom – and is just as smooth!
PS  I am writing this under duress as my wife insists I have enough pipes and must sell it.  As soon as she puts down the shotgun I’m taking it off!

HELP!

As you may know I buy and sell all sorts of pipes.  Recently I came across one which has got me stumped.  It is a beautiful full bent briar and I believe it to be English round about 1880 - 1910.  It is marked but I can't decipher them.

Has anyone seen anything similar?
Any suggestions would be gratefully received

GIVING YOUR PIPE A MAKEOVER!

How many times have you come across a pipe looking like this? The stem is dirty and stained, the metal band corroded, and the bowl is looking very sad indeed.  Our mission is to bring it back to life.

Step 1- The Stem
Over the years the stem does come in for some serious abuse, in and out of people’s mouths, twisted in greasy hands and generally left to grow grungy.  The answer is ‘Bobs Magic Stem Polish’. Formulated from non-toxic ingredients this will get to work to restore your pride and joy.  Apply it with either a brush (see picture) or a soft cloth.  Rub vigorously into the stem until you have covered the entire area.  Wipe off excess and check the finish.  If you still have a few marks then repeat.  The polish is designed to give the stem a lustrous, silky sheen – not a high gloss finish.

Step 2 – The Metal
If you have Bob’s Estate Pipe Tune – Up Kit  you will have an electric brush with three heads.  One is for stem polish, one for bowl polish and the other is for metal polish.  If you don’t have the kit then a piece of cloth will do.
Apply metal polish (Brasso is ideal) until the stains and corrosion have gone.  It’s much easier with the electric brush.

Step 3 – The bowl
Finally we come to the bowl.  Remove any dirt with a cloth moistened with water and just a very small amount of washing up liquid.  Remember the idea is just to remove any surface dirt, not the polished surface.  After that apply ‘Bobs Magic Bowl Polish’, this is also made from natural ingredients and is non-toxic.  I find that a soft cloth is best for smooth finishes and a brush for rustic.  Leave for about ten minutes to allow the natural waxes to soak into the briar and do their work, then buff with a clean soft cloth.  The results will amaze you.

Cleaning your pipe need not be a long task.  The pipe I cleaned for these pictures took about 15 minutes.  Was it a quarter of an hour well spent?  Judge for yourselves.

This only took a few minutes work with the Bob’s Tune- Up Kit.  Each kit contains 1 pot of Stem polish, 1 pot of bowl polish, 1 electric brush and three heads, one yellow duster and pipe cleaners.  Remember after cleaning your pipe to run a pipe-cleaner through it to remove any traces of the polishes.

The pipe used for this demonstration was an actual estate pipe marked 'W E Bryant, Southampton' and sold on Ebay.

Tune-Up kits will shortly be selling on Ebay for the knock down price of £9.50, post and packing included.  Keep your eyes open.
